Wall Street Journal Mention?…

So I stumbled on an article today by Sarah Needleman of the Wall Street Journal where she wrote about our friends over at JobsInPods. She mentions that JobsInPods.com. is an online library of podcast interviews with hiring companies that are looking to attract a new generation of job seekers.

Recruiters for AT&T Corp., for example, produced five podcasts for the site since August. They’ve been downloaded about 500 times each, says Christopher Hoyt, associate director, recruiting, for the telecommunications company.

I wanted to take a few minutes and post about our PodCasting experience.

We have conducted 5 JobsInPods podcasts since August and have had a terrific response. On our last evaluation we found that the broadcasts had been downloaded an average of over 500 times each. Our team decided to start podcasting about employment opportunities because it was a new format that offered a way to reach the next generation of job seekers. The Internet is now so much more than a place where people just look up answers – it’s a resource for people to interact with one another. This was an easy way for us to adapt how we recruit to meet that change. Now in regards to feedback – we have received some great comments both online as well as when our recruiters are in the field. Responses have run the gamut from a simple “Thank You for the interview tips.” to “Hey, I heard you on the Internet!” to “I found your jobs in my iPod and I wanted to apply!”
Our recruiters are taking advantage of many online tools to source and contact potential job seekers. We’ve found that by being more involved in social network sites like MySpace, Facebook, and local forums or portals that we’ve been able to generate additional interest in what AT&T has to offer as an employer – and we’ve had some terrific results. Just this week I was told of additional new hires that we met through these social networking channels!

In talking to Chris Russell over at JobsInPods I shared that we are very pleased with the results we’ve seen from our podcasts. We’ve heard from job seekers both in the field and online - they’ve loved the ability to quickly hear what our recruiters have been sharing in each broadcast - whether it was about specific jobs available or great interview tips to help them through the hiring process with any prospective employer. It’s been exciting to utilize a communication tool that takes advantage of today’s technology, has been easy to use, and is just plain cool.
