The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the nation’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization, the Gill Foundation and Gill Action will be hosting a New Media Training Institute that will be part of the Day Long Institutes sessions at the 22nd National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change.
LGBT advocates and organizations will explore best practices to utilize digital media and online community-building strategies to enhance their organizations' engagement of constituents, public education and advocacy goals. They will work with GLAAD and new media experts from the progressive and political worlds including the New Organizing Institute (NOI) in this interactive day of training.
The New Media Training Institute will be held Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 9 am to 6:30 pm during the Creating Change Conference at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel in Dallas, TX, from February 3-7.
The New Media Training Institute will be useful for a range of experience levels. The training will include a track for individuals who are new to the digital media advocacy field, as well as another for those who want to increase the scope, reach, and effectiveness of work already in progress. Participants will create plans scaled to their organization’s capacity, learn how to utilize a variety of new media tools to advance programmatic goals, and discuss how social media can expand brand awareness and development opportunities. Tools, strategies, and essentials such as video production and online advertising strategies will all be discussed.
Guest presenters will include experts in digital platforms and social media who will provide best practices, case studies, and hands-on technical expertise. Organizations will be encouraged to share their success stories and as well as their challenges. Scholarships for organizational representatives are available.
The Creating Change Conference, produced by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF), offers the opportunity for thousands of committed people to develop and hone their skills, celebrate victories, build community, and to be inspired by visionaries of our LGBT movement and allied movements for justice and equality.
