Well 2010 really snuck up on us and it was… okay… sorry… that’s just crap. 2010 didn’t sneak up on anyone. In fact, it came around at the same pace that 2009 came around and 2008 before that. The real truth of the matter is that some of us were so busy pushing 2009 around that we totally forgot that the older brother was right around the corner until, WHAMMO! He was standing over us asking just what the heck we had in mind for him. (if your year didn’t move like that, I’d highly recommend you take the next +300 days and change gears. you’ll enjoy the difference.)
Shame on us if we sat there slack-jawed and slobbering as opposed to grabbing that new year by the collar and giving it a good shake – all the while rattling off how we plan on kicking it’s tail in the coming months with twice the passion and double the finesse that we “pwned” 2009 with. When 2010 came to see me I was ready – and I wasn’t sitting around with the same lame resolutions that most people rattled off last year. I had a list – and what’s even more scary is that I had a schedule.
- RecruiterGuy.net Site Redesign
This one should be obvious – and I’m pretty excited about it. Looking around you’ll see lots of changes already in effect on the site ranging from the basic navigation and layout to a complete streamlining of the previous content. While there’s much more I’ve got still cooking, I was excited enough about what had been completed that I bumped up my scheduled launch from mid-March to Jan 12.
Take some time to dig around – I think readers will like the new comments, ranking, multimedia delivery and twitter integration. (did I mention there’s much more on the way?) - Share More Quantitative Social & Mobile Recruiting Efforts
2010 will be the year to get into the detail about both the HOW and the WHY related to social and mobile recruiting. I’ve a personal goal to help communicate that just because we CAN do something cool and sexy within our industry doesn’t always mean that we should. Of course you know I’ll be balancing this against an overwhelming urge to push forward – just because we can. My hopes are that by sharing this information that peers and colleagues alike will weigh in with more collaboration than we saw in 2009. (let’s face it… it could have been better.) - Live the difference between Connecting and Connections
I’ve already posted on this one and even had a conversation or two with some L.I.O.N. (LinkedIn Open Networkers) about the fundamental difference in having a ‘connection’ and being ‘connected.’ I’m hoping that I won’t be the only one in our industry to take this seriously - Include more candor and frequency when writing – and keep it fun
My writing style has always been pretty loose. While I’ll be shoring up a few things related to posting schedules my plan for 2010 is not just frequency but delivery style and method. Plans include more video, more platforms, and an upbeat and personal delivery that should feel like we’re talking – not like I’m typing.
I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that 2010 looked a little nervous after I released his shirt and let him get his balance. After all, I’d just enthusiastically told him that I’m planning to politely kick his ass over the next 11 months.
