It wasn’t too long ago that I did a quick review on beamMe Pro, an iPhone application that allows you to share your contact information electronically and some remarks about the announced beamMe CV. Since then the application has really grown in popularity as well as the number of features it provides it’s users. With Geo-mapping to reflect exactly where you met a contact and the ability to send my vCard to even a Twitter contact I thought that the guys at BeamMe would have a hard time topping their little gem of an app.
Then along came beamMe CV. Since I’m not only a fan of going paperless (100% year to date!) but also an advocate that mobile devices are rapidly crossing over into nearly every aspect of our lives and many of our professions – I thought this application was definitely worth a look.
First – let’s talk about a “CV”. For those that don’t know, CV stands for Curriculum Vitae. In short, it’s your résumé or profile. Websites like VisualCV have been providing space online for people to create, share and distribute electronic résumés for quite some time. So imagine the level of interest someone in the recruiting or staffing industry might take in an application that promises the same functionality of beaming electronic business cards to résumé sharing.
So after I had a few weeks to really put it through its paces, did it deliver?
Yes – flawlessly.
With the ability to upload documents to the beamMy CV account I found that resume sharing was a snap. Of course with the ability to quickly change out the uploaded content I discovered that a job seeker (or anyone for that matter) could have various versions of their CV available and fully customized for anything they desire.
100% a mobile option for staying paperless and sharing your resume no matter where you are. Who wouldn’t prefer to carry their résumé in their mobile device as opposed to lugging around folders and stacks of paper?
Will recruiters accept virtual résumés? Of course they will! But will an Applicant Tracking System? Well… not just yet.
So while this amazing application doesn’t take us all the way down the path to not only finding great job opportunities on a mobile device but completely applying for them, it does a great job at getting us closer than ever.
(Man, I’d really like to see an ATS fully optimized for smartphone use! anyone? anyone?)
What I really appreciated was having more than just my virtual business card to share. What I really enjoyed was all of the questions and feedback received from sending the VisualCV to each new relevant contact!
The folks at beamMe have some other apps and items that are pretty amazing and that actually seem to be quite tailored to the Recruiting and Staffing industry. So rest assured that I’ll be keeping them in mind when I push out my next iPhone application review next week.
The next app I’m covering? Recruiter.
