Year to date I’m paperless. That’s right – I haven’t personally created even a shadow of a paper footprint so far this year. Some days are obviously easier than others but for the most part it’s been a pretty satisfying journey.
In staff meetings I typically have my laptop for notes and follow up items. When that proves too cumbersome or unrealistic I simply take notes on my blackberry or iPhone. (Yeah, I’m getting pretty fast with these thumbs – soon I’ll have the mad skills of a texting 12yr old!) When using applications on my iPhone like Evernote I’m able to quickly keep tabs and sync up ideas or agendas regardless of where I log in from. Not to get carried away here but Evernote’s been tremendous for several different reasons… but I digress.
When I ran out of business cards I decided to begin using beamME Pro – a relatively new iPhone application that lets someone send a customized VCard via email or SMS to new or existing contacts. Additionally having the ability to share the information of anyone in my address book made it pretty simple to introduce contacts to one another with just the flick of a few thumbs. (Don’t get me started on the additional features that let you pull a contact feed for all communications as well as geo-tagging and contact mapping!)
This made for some terrific conversations last month when I was in Washington DC and exchanging information with several people within our nation’s capital. While business cards were getting passed around in our meetings I’d enter a bit of text and my VCard would sound off on the hips of those I was meeting with – while we’re still talking. Having my complete contact information suddenly sitting in their inbox before they could even put the rest of their business cards back in their pocket was a good thing.
So imagine my interest when I saw the latest application released by the folks over at rmbrME that offered to help job seekers get a job with their iPhone and email paperless at job fairs. Oh yeah… that get my attention.
beamME CV and Resume Sender are applications for the iPhone or the iPod touch that will let job seekers beam their resume, cover letter, and vCard in real time from their device. So regardless of whether they’re in line somewhere when they meet that recruiter or if they’re standing at the booth of a job fair – they’re able to quickly and easily communicate their information. (Did I mention it’s paperless?)
Hey, a timely response is a big part of the job hunt today. Imagine how pleased I might be as a recruiter if we bump into each other at the coffee shop and after an engaging conversation (you’d be engaging, right?) your resume and cover letter are ringing in my pocket before I even make it back to the car… For anyone wondering – that’s good.

Zichermann (CEO, rmbrME) knows that times are tough right now – so he’s authorized a 30% rebate on the $9.99 price of beamME CV and has agreed to subsidize the cost of the rebate directly. As if that’s not good enough, rmbrME is planting a tree through their partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation for every copy of beamME CV or pro that is purchased.
Keep up with the paperless goodness that is going on with rmbrME on their Twitter or Facebook pages.
